Prof. Dr. Harun-Ur-Rashid

Prof. Dr. Harun-Ur-Rashid is a pioneering Nephrologist in Bangladesh with over 40 years of dedicated service. He completed his MBBS and later earned FCPS, FRCP, MD, and PhD degrees, specializing in nephrology. His career began in 1981 after postgraduate training in the United Kingdom, where he obtained his PhD from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. He joined the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR), Dhaka, as a specialist teacher, marking the start of a transformative journey in kidney care.

He organized the first live-related kidney transplantation in Bangladesh at IPGMR in October 1981 and introduced hemodialysis in 1986 and CAPD in 1987. As a visionary leader, he established the Kidney Foundation of Bangladesh in 2003, creating a not-for-profit hospital that now serves as the largest dialysis and transplant center in the country. He also played a key role in framing the Organ Act law passed in 1999. His contributions have earned him numerous awards, including the Joel D.
